EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED COUPLES THERAPY EXTERNSHIP: HOSTED BY THE SOUTHERN NEVADA EFT COMMUNITY

“Externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy®" offered by ICEEFT with trainers James Hawkins and Cindy Zane is a comprehensive and experiential training opportunity for mental health professionals interested in deepening their understanding and skills in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Emotionally Focused Therapy is a well-established model with a solid empirical foundation that focuses on the emotional bonds within relationships. The four-day externship will provide participants with a rich learning experience, including:

·      Observing Real Couples in Therapy: This allows participants to witness the application of EFT principles in action, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of real-life therapy sessions.

·      Practical Skill Development: Participants will practice and enhance their EFT skills through experiential exercises. This hands-on approach is crucial for integrating theoretical knowledge into practical application.

·      Identification of Stuck Patterns: Understanding and addressing the patterns that keep clients stuck in distress is a crucial aspect of EFT. Participants gain insights into recognizing and working with these patterns effectively.

·      Attachment Science Integration: The training emphasizes translating attachment science principles into targeted interventions for individuals, couples, and families. Attachment theory is foundational to EFT; understanding it is essential for effective therapy.

·      Empowerment for Therapists: The goal of the externship is to leave participants feeling empowered and well-prepared to facilitate growth in their clients during each session.

The combination of live or recorded therapy sessions, practical exercises, and a focus on attachment science provides a holistic approach to learning and applying EFT. Participants will gain theoretical knowledge and valuable tools that can be immediately used in their therapeutic practice.

Facilitating The Function Of Attachment In Distressed Adult Romantic Relationships: An Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Framework

Facilitating The Function Of Attachment In Distressed Adult Romantic Relationships: An Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Framework

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), founded by Dr. Sue Johnson, is a cutting-edge, tested, and proven couple intervention developed in tandem with the science of adult attachment. Research indicates that secure attachment and emotionally fulfilling relationships are integral components of mental and physical health and that emotionally focused interventions have the power to establish and recreate supportive bonds among individuals.

In this learning experience, Dr. Hawkins will bring his expertise and creativity to help clinicians improve their focus and efficacy in working with couples stuck in emotional and relational distress and move from rigid cycles of self-protection to flexible cycles of connection.

In this experiential course, learners will journey through the flow of attachment in adult romantic relationships, focusing on guiding couples toward the beacon of secure connection. Through clinical tapes, role plays, and experiential exercises, special attention will be given to helping clinicians address standard blocks and detours in clinically distressed couples' treatment.

This course is open to seasoned couples therapists and individual, child, and family therapists interested in learning more about EFT and how applying the language of attachment and emotion-focused interventions can effect change in challenging and stressful relationships and moments.

The Promise of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) in Unravelling and Treating Intergenerational Trauma

The Promise of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) in Unravelling and Treating Intergenerational Trauma

Join us for this 12hr training on December 1st, 2nd, 8th.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT; S. Johnson) is best known as a potent couple intervention but has always, from its inception, been used in clinical practice with individuals. This workshop focuses on Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFT) as it applies to working with individuals struggling with the echoes of trauma, including intergenerational trauma. Attachment science and an experiential Humanistic approach offer a map that simplifies how we view and frame clients' problems, and how we intervene across the three-stage therapy process. The 'experiential assessment' tunes the therapist into clients' strengths and vulnerabilities to chart clients' therapeutic journey toward a felt sense of security in self and others - the pathway to symptom resolution and the antidote to trauma.

Navigating the Complexities of Race and Gender for African American Couples

The impact of racial stress shows up in a multitude of ways in the lives of African American couples and families, often exacerbating difficulties in their primary relationships. As EFT therapists learn more about the racial and cultural factors that impact those in our care, it is important to examine the complexities surrounding the intersection of race and gender. This symposium is designed for couple and family therapists to hear from four experts who will each speak to how Black men and women’s experiences of racism in the larger culture impact their most important relationships. The program concludes with a moderated panel discussion among the four presenters.

Healing Relationship Injuries with the Attachment Injury Resolution Model (AIRM)
Mar
31
to Apr 1

Healing Relationship Injuries with the Attachment Injury Resolution Model (AIRM)

In this training, participants will gain practitioner-relevant insight into the E.F.T. model, including attachment injury repair. The training will begin with a brief overview of the E.F.T. and A.I.R. models, including a review of the importance of early sessions in building an alliance and charting the therapy course. An overview of the C.A.R.E. model (a model that guides clinicians in attending to four main channels, Context, Attachment, Relationship/Therapeutic Alliance, and Emotion at the outset of treatment and throughout the therapy process) will also be covered in this training.

The focus of the training will then shift to center on working with emotion with a focus on the interventions central to E.F.T. - the Tango. Following this, participants will be guided through the three-stage treatment process, focusing on the three key change events (stabilization/de-escalation, withdrawer engagement, and pursuer softening) as they pertain to attachment injury repair.

Key markers within the roadmap will be identified, and the potential roles of shame and racial tensions in contextualizing and resolving attachment injuries will be delineated. Finally, the importance of consolidation and integration will be reviewed in the context of the overall E.F.T. and Al models, with attention to C.A.R.E. and to the key role of grief in facilitating the redefinition of a safe haven and a new narrative.
